Educational Program

Discover our innovative approach to multilingual education that prepares students for success in a global world.

Curriculum Design

Our curriculum is thoughtfully designed to develop bilingual, biliterate students who excel academically and embrace cultural diversity.

Total Language Immersion

Frederick International Academy (FIA) uses a full language immersion curriculum, where students receive daily instruction in their target language (Mandarin, Spanish, or French) from kindergarten through 8th grade. English Language Arts instruction begins in 2nd grade, ensuring strong bilingual development.

The curriculum aligns with Maryland State Standards, including the Maryland College and Career Ready Standards (MCCRS) for English Language Arts and Mathematics, as well as the Next Generation Science Standards (NGSS).

• Full Language Immersion: Students learn core subjects primarily in the target language to build fluency and confidence.

• Content-Based Language Teaching: Language instruction is integrated with academic subjects for meaningful learning.

• Cultural Competence: Students develop an understanding of global cultures, traditions, and perspectives.

Culturally Responsive Teaching

We honor and incorporate students' cultural backgrounds, languages, and experiences into meaningful learning that connects to their lives.

Maryland CCRS-Aligned

Our curriculum meets and exceeds Maryland College and Career-Ready Standards, ensuring students are prepared for academic success at every level.

Project-Based Interdisciplinary Learning

Students engage in hands-on projects that integrate multiple subjects, developing critical thinking, creativity, and real-world problem-solving skills.

The Learning Experience

At FIA, learning is active, engaging, and meaningful. We create experiences that inspire curiosity and build lasting skills.

Hands-On Projects

Students learn by doing—through experiments, creations, and investigations that bring concepts to life.

STEM & Arts Integration

We blend science, technology, engineering, math, and the arts for well-rounded, creative learning.

Community Connections

Learning extends beyond the classroom through partnerships with local organizations and real-world experiences.

Small, Supportive Classrooms
